Hand stripping should be done on a 2–12 weekly basis but will depend on the individual coat, temperament, and condition of the dog.
This method is common in the Terrier and Gun dog breeds and maintains the colour and texture of the coat.
Dogs must have a suitable coat, temperament, and condition for hand stripping.
Commonly, neutered dogs may not be suitable for hand stripping as changes in hormones can affect the coat’s regrowth of colour and texture, making it uncomfortable to strip for some dogs.
Hand stripping can be uncomfortable for some dogs. If this is the case, we will suggest a different technique for your dog. see below in hand strip simulation for more information.
We bath beforehand stripping, as hand stripping can leave open pores once the hair has been removed, this can make the skin susceptible to infection.
Please be aware that if the coat is really thick or is harder to pull out, there may be an additional charge which us common if left to long or not done regularly enough.

This is a great method for owners who want the hand strip look for their dog but the dogs either don’t like hand stripping or do not have a suitable coat or skin.
This “hand strip look” service includes 2 warm wet washes, an all-over body massage, a groom through removing all that old hair and debris, and a conditioning treatment.
